Political Relations

Greek-German relations are currently at a very good level, with close cooperation within the framework of the EU and NATO, as well as frequent exchanges of visits between the two countries. A Greek-German parliamentary friendship group is active in the German Parliament. New impetus has been imparted to Greek-German cooperation since 2010, thanks to the Greek-German partnership and the Initiative of the Greek-German Assembly.

Cultural Relations and Greek Community

The presence of some 340,000 expatriate Greeks in Germany is a significant link between the two peoples. There is a Greek-German friendship group in the Bundestag, and there are over 380,000 Greek Germans in Germany. There is a large Greek presence in the Federal States of Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg and North Rhine-Westphalia. There are several Greek schools in Germany, as well as German schools with the Greek language in their curricula. There are also two public bilingual European Schools in Berlin.
The Greek Orthodox Church is highly regarded in Germany. The Metropolitan of Germany is a respected collocutor of the political and party leaderships. The highly developed church organization and multifaceted social and philanthropic activities of the Metropolitan of Germany work to hold the Greek community close together.
