Greece has an Embassy in Ottawa and Consulates General in Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto. Montreal is also home to Greece’s Permanent Mission to the ICAO. Canada has an Embassy and Consular Section in Athens and an Honorary Consulate in Thessaloniki.
Political Relations
Greek-Canadian relations are based on a long tradition of friendship and cooperation and are developing in all sectors. The two states cooperate closely within the framework of international organizations, such as the UN, NATO, OSCE and the “Organisation internationale de la Francophonie”, often supporting each other’s candidacies.
Greek-Canadian defence cooperation is at a good level and is promoted mainly within the framework of NATO and EU-NATO relations, as well as bilaterally.
EU-Canadian relations within the framework of the Transatlantic Dialogue cover a wide range of political, economic and commercial issues, as well as institutionalized contacts.
The Greek-Canadian Agreement on Youth Mobility (2013) gives Greek and Canadian citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 the opportunity to travel, reside and work for up to 12 months in each other’s countries, expanding their horizons and enriching their CVs.
Cultural Relations and Greek Community
The Greek Canadian community has a remarkable and multifaceted presence in Canada. Canadian citizens of Greek origin are active in all walks of life (politics, academia, sciences, business, professions, etc.).
The important exhibition “The Greeks: from Agamemnon to Alexander the Great”, showcasing an impressive line-up of more than 500 artifacts from 22 Greek museums, is being hosted in Canada (Montreal, Ottawa) till October 2015.
