Russian airstrikes commence against IS holding posts

The Russian Defence Ministry said on Wednesday its forces had begun airstrikes against Islamic State militants, targeting military equipment, communication facilities, arms depots, ammunition and fuel, news agencies reported.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is “not going to plunge into this conflict head-on” and will help Syrian President Bashar Assad’s Army as long as their offensive operation lasts.

Mr. Putin also said he expects Mr. Assad to sit down and talk with the Syrian opposition about a political settlement in Syria.
