Greek-Hungarian diplomatic relations were re-established on 23 July 1956, and representation on the Embassy level dates from 24 August 1964. In addition to its Embassy in Athens, Hungary maintains honorary consular missions in Thessaloniki, Piraeus and Corfu.
Political Relations
Greece and Hungary cooperate closely within the EU and NATO. Bilateral contacts take place regularly on all levels, contributing to the further strengthening of bilateral relations.
Cultural Relations and Greek Community
The two peoples are linked by strong cultural ties, as attested two by the chairs in Ancient and Modern Greek Studies at prominent Hungarian universities. There are some 5,000 Greek Hungarians in Hungary, and they have received official minority recognition.
