Greece established diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the first years of the state’s independence (1971), and opened an Embassy in Abu Dhabi in 1989. The UAE is represented in Greece by its Embassy in Rome, but will soon open an Embassy in Greece.
Political Relations
There is mutual will to further develop the already good political, economic and cultural relations between Greece and the UAE through the exchange of visits on the highest political level, as well as through additions to the contractual framework between the two sides. To date, major bilateral agreements have been signed, including a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultations between the two Foreign Ministries, the Agreement on Air Transport, and the Agreement on Avoidance of Double Taxation, while the Agreement on Military Cooperation between the two countries has been ratified.
