France warns about the risk of derogation from the European Convention on Human Rights

France has informed the Council of Europe “for its decision to derogate from the European Convention on Human Rights”, due to the adoption of a state of emergency after the attacks in Paris, announced the pan-European organization in a statement.

The French authorities have informed the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Thorbjorn Jagland, that “a number of measures taken under the state of emergency after the recent terrorist attacks in Paris”. These measures “are likely to require a derogation from certain rights guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights.”
