The regular airline route between Athens and Ljubljana was officially launched on Wednesday, 15 June 2016, as the first Aegean Airlines flight from Athens touched down at 8.25 am at the Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport, Slovenia’s main airport.
Scheduled flights on the new route are expected to connect the Slovenian and Greek capitals twice a week, every Wednesday and Saturday, until the end of September.
The Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Athens in collaboration with Athens International Airport and Aegean Airlines marked the inaugural flight by participating at the opening ceremony and with a special promotional booth of Slovenia.
At the opening ceremony Mrs Ioanna Papadopoulou, Director of Communications and Marketing at Athens International Airport and Mrs Anita Pipan, Slovenian Ambassador to Greece stressed great opportunities offered by the new connection between both countries and opportunities to deepen cooperation and strengthen ties between Slovenia and Greece in all fields. Ambassador Pipan highlighted also the 25th anniversary of Slovenia’s independence and main attributes of Slovenia as a green, active and healthy tourist destination.
