Greece is represented in Madagascar through parallel accreditation of its Embassy in Nairobi, while Madagascar is represented in Greece through its Embassy in Rome. There is also a Greek Honorary General Consulate in Antananarivo, and a Malagasy Honorary Consulate in Athens.
Political Relations
Geographical distance and the lack of flight connections have thus far prevented bilateral trade, economic and tourism relations from further growing.
Cultural Relations and Greek Community
The Greek community in Madagascar consists of some 140 persons. The Orthodox Holly Diocese of Madagascar and its Missionary Station operate under the Patriarchate of Alexandria. The Holy Diocese’s social and educational work is notable, and the same goes for its efforts to improve the quality of life for the country’s inhabitants by providing significant services to those in need. Apart from the two major Greek-Orthodox churches, another 15 have been built, whereas 30 parish churches serve the needs of the local population of Christian Orthodox faith.
