Greece established diplomatic relations with Thailand on 26 May 1958. The Greek Embassy in Bangkok opened in November 1989. Thailand maintains an Embassy in Athens.
Political Relations
We have very good diplomatic relations with Thailand, with significant potential for further improvement in the economic cooperation sector. Cooperation between the two countries in the multilateral field is growing – mainly in the context of the EU political dialogue with the countries of Southeast Asia and ASEAN – while it is expanding into issues of international interest through mutual support for candidacies in International Organizations.
Cultural Relations and Greek Community
Our relations in the field of cultural and educational exchanges could be further improved, particularly through the strengthening of cooperation in the sectors of science, education, research, libraries, culture, mass media, youth and sports.
Of the small number of Greeks residing permanently in Thailand, most are involved in local business activities.
The direct air link between our countries via Thai is an important bridge of communication for Greece to Southeast Asia and beyond.
