Greece established diplomatic relations with Peru in 1966, with parallel accreditation of the Embassy in Brazil until 1992, when the Lima Embassy went into operation. Peru has an Embassy in Athens.
Political Relations
Our country has a high level of cooperation on international and regional issues within the framework of the United Nations, international organisations and on various other international forums. Our Embassy has a cultural presence in the country and holds events funded by the Foreign Ministry’s Directorate of Educational Relations.
Cultural Relations and Greek Community
The Peruvians of Greek origin number about 350 persons. They are concentrated mostly in Lima and include many entrepreneurs and business executives, most of which are second and third generation Greeks.
There is a Greek Community established in Lima, which seeks to gather all the Greeks by organizing various events. There is a Christian Orthodox church in Lima, built by Russian immigrants, which is under the remit of the Greek Orthodox Archbishopric of South America, seated in Buenos Aires. The Orthodox Community of Peru mostly consists of: Greek, Russian, Palestinian, Ukrainian, Romanian and Peruvian Christian Orthodox.
