Political Relations
The two countries are partners in the EU and allies in NATO, and maintain active political relations, enjoying a good level of cooperation in International Organizations. The two countries resumed their diplomatic relations on 7/1/1992, with Greece supporting Lithuania’s efforts to join Euro-Atlantic institutions.
Cultural Relations and Greek Community
Greece is among the three most popular tourism destination for Lithuanian tourists. The two countries have significant ties on the cultural level, including the functioning of a Greek-Lithuanian Cultural Centre – which organizes a number of cultural events – within the framework of the sisterhood between the cities of Vilnius and Piraeus. Other sister cities include Hydra-Kaunaskai and Agios Pavlos Thessaloniki-Kaishiandoris.
The Classical Philology Department at Vilnius University offers Greek Language classes.
The Greek Lithuanian community is small in number.
