Dublin Greek Film Festival returns to Irelands capital this April<\/strong>

The second Dublin Greek Film Festival takes place from Thursday 21 April to Sunday 24 April at Chester Beatty Library, Filmbase, Omniplex Rathmines and The Sugar Club. The Festival will be presenting cinematic visions of Greece through features, documentaries and short films along with special events.<\/p>\n

After a successful first edition the festival is back to Dublin to present not only recent Greek movies but also to introduce Greek music to Irish audiences. Everybody knows about ancient Greece but we want to give people the opportunity to explore modern Greek culture and cinema says Kiki Konstantinidou, Co- Founder of the Festival.<\/p>\n

Dublin Greek Film Festival will kick off with the screening of the award winning music documentary A Family Affair, (Best Documentary at Hellenic Film Awards 2015; FIPA or at Festival International de Programmes Audiovisuels 2015), at Chester Beatty Library on 21 April at 6pm. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Angeliki Aristomenopoulou, Director of the movie and a wine reception sponsored by Kir-Yianni Wine Estate. This screening is sold out.<\/p>\n

Agora(2015), directed by Yorgos Avgeropoulos, an internationally acclaimed Greek documentary filmmaker, opens the second day of the Festival. This documentary shows the development of the Greek economic crisis and will take place at Filmbase on April 22 at 6pm.<\/p>\n

Also on Friday the cinema lovers will have the opportunity to see Elias Demetriou’s new movie, Smac (Best Actress at Hellenic Film Awards in 2016) which tells the story of Eleni, who is diagnosed with cancer and takes the chance to have another look at her life. Filmbase, Friday April 22, 8pm.<\/p>\n

On Saturday 23 April the Festival invites cinema goers to the screening of Little England by Pantelis Voulgaris, one of the most prominent Greek Directors. This period drama takes place on the Greek island of Andros during World War II. The movie received six awards at Hellenic Film Awards 2014, it was Greece’s entry for Best Foreign Film at the Oscars and it was awarded the Golden Goblet for Best Film at Shanghai International Film Festival. Omniplex Rathmines, Saturday April 23, 4.30pm.<\/p>\n

Also on Saturday 23 April awarded shorts from 2015 Drama International Short Film Festival will be presented at Filmbase. For more than 15 years the DISFF awarded short films have been travelling in Greece and abroad. The Festival organisers are proud to add Ireland as a new destination to this journey. This free screening will commence at 6pm.<\/p>\n

The third day of the Festival will finish with a screening of The Sentimentalists (2014) by Nicholas Triandafyllidis (Best Debutant Actor for Haris Fragoulis at Athens International Film Festival 2014; Screenplay Competition at Mexico International Film Festival 2015). This film which mixes dark comedy with tragic romance will be shown at Filmbase, 8pm.<\/p>\n

On Sunday the Festival will close with a fundraiser for refugees in Greece at The Sugar Club. The event will consist of a second screening of A Family Affair followed by a concert of Pakaw, the all-female combo based in UK that pushes the boundaries of traditional Greek music and Mediterranean rhythms. The event starts at 4pm.<\/p>\n
