The European Parliament voted in favor of the European Commission’s proposal about the Programme for Employment and Development in Greece!
Greece is expected to receive over 35 billion euro for the period 2014-2020 from the European Structural and Investment Funds.
Mr. Valdis Dombrovskis, Vice-President for the Euro and the Social Dialogue, said: “I welcome today’s vote by the European Parliament that gives green light for front-loading funding with existing EU funds for investments in development projects in Greece. Timely and effective implementation of reforms to modernize the Greek public administration and economy – as agreed under the new stability support program – is essential to restore financial stability and, consequently, economic growth and employment’.
Ms. Corina Cretu, Commissioner responsible for Regional Policy, said: “I am delighted that the European Parliament has supported our proposals so that Greece can draw all the benefits from the European Structural and Investment Funds. These measures are urgent because of the exceptional nature of the situation. They will contribute to the successful implementation of the 2007-2013 programs and to restart investment in the new period 2014-2020. This vote is a strong signal of European solidarity. It is now up to our Greek partners to make the efforts to ensure rapid and lasting return to growth. “
