Greece established diplomatic relations with North Korea in 2001 and is represented in North Korea by its Embassy in Seoul. The North Korean ambassador in Rome is also accredited to Greece. The two counties maintain limited political contact, on an official level.
There is minimal activity in the area of bilateral economic exchanges, which are discouraged due to the current international sanctions against the North Korea.
However, Greece offers aid on a bilateral level and through international organizations to address and combat the food shortages faced by the North Korean people, as well as the serious deficiencies in education.
